According to him, the informal Cabinet of Ministers, in pursuit of public welfare, has developed in recent months a program that will become an alternative to the objectives and policies pursued by the right-wing government.
These actions of the largest opposition party were appreciated by the Seimas senators.
Algirdas Sys, the largest of the opposition Social Democratic faction, claims that the ambitions of the “peasants” are just loud statements that do not yield anything tangible.
“The Social Democrats are politicians, not spectacles. I think that the shadow government in the multi-party system is bullshit in general. Yes, I agree, one person or another specializes and has more knowledge in one area or another. But that does not mean that he will be a future minister.

After all, in a multi-party system, it is not clear what the coalition will be. After all, five ministers can run for the same job. This is a game to get more attention. I understand that if such a thing was done in a two-party system, then everything would be clear, “Sys told Eltai.
Putting these arguments together, the politician said he doubted that the shadow peasant government formed on Thursday would create significant changes both in the work of the opposition and in the life of society. In general, as the Social Democrat did not hide himself, the ambition of the “peasants” to form a shadow cabinet of ministers is probably due to political inexperience.
“They had no faction in the Seimas, except during the previous period. The Campesinos (in the previous Seimas – ELTA) had another parliamentarian, and in 2016 they immediately put themselves in position. But as an opposition party, they never worked. Perhaps that’s why they think that if they form a shadow government, something will change. The statute defines very clearly the activities of the opposition factions and the ability to legislate, speak, etc. So if you call yourself a shadow minister, something is unlikely to change, “said the politician.
The conservative welcomes the idea of ”peasants”
Meanwhile, the first vice president of the Seimas, representing the main opponents, the conservatives, Jurgis Razma values much more positively the ambitions of the “peasants” with respect to the shadow government. He noted that the Conservatives themselves, in opposition, had formed a shadow cabinet, which he said was beneficial. Therefore, politicians have considered that this may become a precondition for better quality work by opposition “peasants”.

“We ourselves have formed a shadow government. In part, this paid off. It is not bad when specific politicians appointed as shadow ministers seem to take on the additional responsibility of delving into individual areas to oversee the activities of the current ministers Government more consistently and closely. But it all depends on how that shadow government will function, “Razma told Eltai.
“There are many advantages, if there is a constructive attitude, and not just a formality, that in each case the shadow minister will necessarily criticize everything and issue politicized statements,” added the conservative.
The shadow government of the Lithuanian Union of Greens and Peasants (LVŽS) meets for its first meeting on Thursday. According to R. Karbauskis, this will be the first government in the shadow of the country to work permanently, according to the regulations and approved work program.
