“A circumstance could change if the majority of the Seimas asked me not to do so. (…) Until Tuesday, I will address the Central Electoral Commission (CEC) on Tuesday with a statement. They have until Tuesday if they want me to stay in the Seimas, “said R. Karbauskis.
R. Karbauskis and the colleague of the faction, who was behind him, laughed at the probability of this happening.
“Everybody here laughs and I can laugh,” said R. Karbauskis.
Take an “all or nothing” approach
The peasant leader takes the “all or nothing” position. The peasants are also demanding that their candidate Aušrinė Norkienė be approved as vice president of the Seimas. They also continue to protest against the proposed reform of the Statute, after which the peasants declared that they would no longer nominate their candidates for the commissions of the commissions and committees.
“After we made our statement, I had to talk to the president of Seimas, the leaders of the other factions of the party, who started to tell us: ‘listen, we are wrong, we are correcting, we are repealing our amendments.’ Our saying was clear: either we go back to the beginning or we don’t talk at all because there is nothing to talk about. Of the hundreds of thousands of people who voted for LVŽS, he is openly ridiculed and we will not accept it, ”said R. Karbauskis.
Think LVŽS is having a hard time with that.
R. Karbauskis affirmed that, from the speeches in the press, he understood that all the problems are limited to him as a person.
“The opposition has been divided over various job proposals. It was received that today in the Seimas the positions of deputies are occupied by factions that have ten, eleven, twelve members of the Seimas, and the faction, which has fifty members of the Seimas, has three deputies of the Speaker of the Seimas. The faction, which has thirty-two members of the Seimas, has nothing. As I understand it, because one of the problems with the position (…) is with me, I spoke with colleagues and informed them that I would probably eliminate this problem so that the ruling majority would come down and give our group the opportunity to work fully in the Seimas ”, said R. Karbauskis.
When R. Karbauskis decided to retire, A. Norkienė was elected director of the LVŽS. He himself promises to remain active in politics.
“Political opponents who will be glad you did it probably will be for a few days or a week. Because I’m going to get back those instruments that I haven’t had in four years. I am one of the biggest contributors to Lithuania. I am a farmer, patron. I could have criticized this authority, who has now been elected, as a member of the Seimas, and my options would have been limited.
My decision opens my hands, I am in the ranks of the taxpayers and I will be able to say what I see without a political context, ”said R. Karbauskis.
Promises to remain active in politics
According to him, if the current government happens to fall, the people of the Seimas will be ready to take over the state.
“We will have a shadow government. One of my responsibilities as president of LVŽS will be to form that shadow government. I already gave Saul Skvernelis a mandate to form a shadow government, and I think we will have one in December. This government it will have its own program, ”said R. Karbauskis.
At the same time, he assured that he will remain in politics and will be even more active than before, believing that he would have more instruments. If the rulers do not react to their withdrawal, R. Karbauskis promised that the peasants would continue to adhere to the initial position that they would not participate in the governing bodies of the Seimas committees and commissions.
“Our next step will be to inform all the countries of the European Union about what is happening in our Seimas. Today, in Europe, you will not find a state in which, with thirty of the 141 members of the Seimas, a faction of this size is not represented in the leadership of Parliament. (…) This is the bottom of the political culture, and our opponents have reached it, who now have seventy-several votes ”, said the president of the LVŽS.
