Earlier on Thursday, Western countries urged their citizens to leave the airport and the surrounding area immediately due to the terrorist threat, with thousands of people still floating there trying to get on evacuation planes.

The United States has asked people waiting at the Kabul airport to leave the area on Wednesday night due to a “security risk.”
