The works on the banks of the lagoon boiled a few days ago, as soon as the rain revived the Curonian Spit. Six artists started working here, then another joined. Artists from Lithuania and Latvia came to build sand masterpieces. The quarantine prevented the entry of guests from Spain and Denmark.
The sculptures must be completed before Saturday, after the works, guests will visit the Black Dunes, and a presentation of the sculptures is planned for Sunday.
According to Juodkrante artist Albert Danilevičius, this year’s theme is “The Land of the Curonian Spit”. The artist himself creates a dancer who represents a sandstorm. Agnese Kirilova, who came from Latvia, decided to create the wife of a fisherman who expects a husband to return. Andrius Sirtautas, who came from Šilutė, “flooded” the cat on the pier, because the fisherman and the cat are an inseparable duo. Povilas Šorys leads an old forest with sand dunes. Vilnius’s Justė Venslovaitė will drop off his own cormorant at the Curonian Lagoon pier. Emilija Lendraitytė, the last student to join the project, intends to form a wave.

The sand masterpieces will remain in Juodkrante throughout the season, unless unexpected hail blows occur or, as they say, A. Danilevičius, a fist the size of a fist breaks.

This year, the developers are accompanied by great heat. A.Danilevičius says his neck hurts so much that he doesn’t want to wash in the morning.
“Agnese doesn’t want a tent, she said she wants to get a tan and has already built it,” the artists decided to hide from the sun.
