As the basketball player himself said, he didn’t have to be too open about the book, as the book’s author, Linas Kunigėlis, spoke with many members of the basketball player’s family.
Communicating with reporters, Valančiūnas spoke about the NBA season, the period of self-isolation, vacations at unusual times, and plans to attend Lithuanian club games.
– Jonas, you present the book at a sports school where you spent four years. What has this school given you?
– It made a start, a start. When I arrived in Vilnius, I started playing basketball here and took my first steps.
– What is the idea of this book?
– The idea is to encourage young people to follow the path of integrity, no matter what you do: basketball, soccer, music or anything else. Whatever happens in your life, know what you want to do and achieve your goals.
– Maybe you already read what impression?
– Good impression, Linas Kunigėlis is really a professional representative in this field, she has done a lot of work and compiled good material. I opened very little, because everything was done by my environment circle, Linas Kunigėlis did a lot of work talking to my relatives, parents, family.
– For the first time in my life I had to go through a period of self-isolation. How did it go?
– I did well, I had a great time. Everything went well, I spent less than two weeks and so on.
– It was a fun season, you had to play its extension. How did it go?
– Really fun season, playing without fans, bubble … Season paused, then resumed. Lots of question marks, but I’m glad we finished the season safely. Now we are waiting to see when it will be clear when the next season will start, what the format will be.

– Was there a lot of frustration about not making the NBA playoffs?
– Of course, at the beginning we stood firm in eighth place, but injuries, gaps in our young team … We can look for excuses, but we are not looking for them. There is another season and it means a lot to our team. We need to look forward.
– Do you know when the new season can start?
– I think I know as much as you, because there are many thoughts, from the bubble to waiting for the fans. The season must end and a decision will be made.
– What do you think is the capacity ceiling of your young Grizzlies team, especially knowing what young Ja Morant is like?
– I don’t know where the ceiling is. The ceiling is how much you work, how much you train and improve. I think our young people don’t really complain about work, they do their best because they want to be the best. We have a young coach who works a lot. We have everything we need.

– How do you predict the end of this season?
– I do not know, many interesting things are happening, that game in the bubble, without the fans, does its thing. We spent five months, there were several changes. Let’s see, I don’t have my favorite.
– What should be added to the team in the offseason?
– We really need to add a lot, as this season has shown, if we want to be in the playoffs or above eighth place. Everything is done work.
– What would you like to do during the rest of the holidays?
– Holidays. It’s unclear when next season will be, I’ll go there before training camp. You don’t know how to plan everything. There are no clear things these days. I must live with it.
– Will any of the Grizzlies coaching staff visit before the start of the season?
– Now not much, the United States is the country where we do not allow much travel. It all depends on the situation, it would be wonderful to work with coaches here. There are plans of this type, but we will see what the situation will be with the coronavirus.
– If opportunities allow, will you attend Lithuanian club matches?
– I really like basketball and I will attend the game. There are friends who play both LKL and beyond. Now is the time for you.
