Jonas Kazlauskas, who has lived through important stages in his career in Kaunas, Greece, Russia and China, spent even more time in Vilnius.
He lost his career as a basketball player on the Statybos team, studied mathematics in Vilnius, started a family and started working as a basketball coach.
He was formed in Vilnius “Rytas” (2001-2004), when stars like Ramūnas Šiškauskas, Arvydas Macijauskas, Robertas Javtokas turned on there, and a few years ago he returned to live in Vilnius, changing his house in the capital only for a farm.
A year and a half ago, J. Kazlauskas was mentioned as a possible Vilnius “Rytas” president, but he only shook his head silently.
Former club manager Rolandas Jarutis has said that a 66-year-old basketball specialist would only go to that position if everything at the club was perfectly clean like a top-tier pharmacy.

Now the Vilnius team is shaking up failures and changes, traveling during the worst season in its history.
In the FIBA Champions League, hopes were dashed after the fourth defeat in the five group matches, and in the quarterfinals of the Citadele King Mindaugas Cup, Vilnius was defeated by Utena’s Juventus, who have a budget three times less.
Coach Donald Kairys was fired an hour Saturday after a 78:10 psychological trauma against Utena, despite preparing to continue working as a coach and athletic director.
Giedrius Žibėnas, who jumped from his assistant to the coach’s chair, will now try to resurrect the team, whose fans have had to exhaust all sedatives for the past year.
J. Kazlauskas asked to share his thoughts on the problems surrounding Vilnius “Morning” for 15 minutes. The conversation took place even before the events of Saturday night.
– You kept talking about Lithuania needing a second or stronger team, why has Rytas moved further and further away from Kaunas Žalgiris in recent years? – 15 minutes J. Kazlauskas asked.

– Maybe, but then “Rytas” got closer to other LKL teams?
– That’s more correct, but everything is clear to me here. If “Žalgiris” has no problems, then “In the morning” – only problems. Find them all desperate as those blows to the head come one after another. When Riga VEF loses, which they did not consider a good team, then the question already arises, what kind of basketball game?
But it all starts with the head. From the host. The club has been falling for some years and now we are seeing the consequences of the last years.
– Were the key mistakes made last summer when the club no longer had the squad of Marek Blaževičius, Ąžuolas Tubelis, Deividas Sirvydis, Eimantas Bendžius, coach Dainius Adomaitis?
– I don’t see a thought in the morning activities. What they declare is different from the works we see later.
Initially there was talk of growing a young team, that would be a good move.
He said the team will grow, we will strengthen it, and then we will compete, welcome, we would all have patience, waiting for the young team.
But when the season started, we saw that those young teams were gone. Declared one way and done another way. And those things could be named and named: interpretations of relationships through the press and the like.

– You say that everything starts with the owner, but the main shareholder of “Rytas” Darius Gudelis for the portal basketnews.lt He said the criticisms made of him were surprising. According to him, the structure of the club has been fixed, the budget is being met, in the summer the appointment of D.Kairis was positively valued by fans and journalists, and now the coach must take responsibility for the match. What do you think about that?
– For the past five years, a coach has always become a pitcher.
I don’t know if everything can be fixed by the coach and the players. Perhaps when Kėdainiai loses to “Nevėžis” and it is possible, however, these are different teams, the level of line-ups is different. But the failure in Europe was due to setup and many other things.
– How do you evaluate Donald Kairis and the basketball he creates?
