Rokas Jokubaitis, who is in solitary confinement, participated on Monday morning in the program “Labas rytas, Lietuva”, where he recounted his experience of being infected with coronavirus.
“The positive result was removed from the cancer, but now I really feel good and I hope the result (of the coronavirus test) will be repeated and I hope it is negative,” Jokubaitis said when asked about his well-being.
Still, the basketball player admitted that even he didn’t know exactly when he would have a chance to retake the COVID-19 test.
“From what I spoke to the doctor, now there are no great opportunities (to do that). I got a positive result, I felt some symptoms so it will be a bit more difficult to do. Somehow we will try to agree.
If I feel great, it may take a few days for the test. There are not many places, everything is compressed, but hopefully it somehow allows it, “Jokubaitis said on the program” Labas rytas, Lietuva. “
Jokubaitis also confirmed that the entire remaining Žalgiris team will conduct additional coronavirus testing today (Monday).
“Now everyone is in self-isolation, but today at 1 pm the whole team, the coaches and the staff will test a second time and then we will be watching,” said the defender.
For the basketball player himself, this infection turned into an unpleasant surprise, because, as he assured the presenter of the program Ignas Krupavičius, he has no idea where he could have contracted the insidious virus.
“I cannot imagine how the virus could have reached me. Sure, I had a lot of contact on the basketball court, but not with those around me. I have no idea how it could infect me. During the time that I was able to get infected, there were some exceptional places (I didn’t visit) and the people I met were friends with the team.

It’s very strange how it got here. I hope the tests remain negative for the rest of the team and I will have to be alone in that self-isolation. Or maybe after a repeat (test) and it comes out negative. I hope so, “Jokubaitis said.
Asked what I think is the probability of Friday’s match between “Žalgiris” and “Madrid” Real, Jokubaitis remained positive.
“I would like to believe as much as possible that they will happen. Personally, it would also be unpleasant for me, because it all started with me. If some teammates fight after repeated tests …
Now so fashionable (that after further investigations, the number of COVID-19 cases in the team is increasing) – yesterday in Lietkabelis nine diseases, in Utena “Juventus” – eleven. I hope everything is fine and that the game is on Friday. We play basketball well, we are in good shape, so we don’t want that game to be postponed for a few months, ”Jokubaitis said.
Last week, the Lithuanian government also made a decision according to which a total of 300 spectators will be admitted to Žalgiris and other sporting events. Jokubaitis, again, tried to see positive things in this situation.
“I have not had time to play in such an empty arena this season. But as you have seen abroad, the number of spectators is very limited. We look very good in the guests when we play without fans. I don’t know, that absence of fans it is perhaps an advantage for us.
But we will play at home, and the Kaunas fans have always been like our sixth player, it can cause difficulties, but there are also advantages: we will listen to each other on the field, it will be easier to communicate from the bench, the coaches will advise something. There are pros and cons, ”Žalgiris said.
Last week, Jokubaitis received some very welcome news: In the NBA Newcomer Rankings compiled by ESPN, Mažeikiai was ranked 49th. The 19-year-old made no secret that the position was a pleasant surprise for him.
“When I saw that I was 50 years old, even though I was only 100 in the summer, it was really funny and surprising. I really didn’t expect it. During that heat of the season, I had forgotten to move to the NBA or the Rookie Exchange. I thought I would have to give it a try next year. But now that such news has come down from the clear sky …
We still have time until November 8, when the application can be withdrawn. We will talk to the family, the agent, how to do better here. It will be an interesting period, now I have a lot of free time at home to reflect, I think we will decide it together with close people ”, concluded Jokubaitis.
