He achieved a dramatic victory in the Greek championship after extra time. Jonas Mačiulis represented by Club Atenas AEK (13/4), at home 100: 97 (21:17, 15:26, 27:17, 22:25, 15:12) broke the Thessaloniki team “Iraklis” (7/11).
4 minutes before the end of the match, AEK team had a 2-point lead (77:75), but the opponents won the section 6: 0 and formed a 4-point lead – 81:77. Still, he did not eliminate the Athens team and 38 seconds before play, Keith Langford cut AEK’s deficit to a low of 83:84 by three points. AEK, which fought back against Iraklis attack, had a chance to escape, but Matthew Lojeski attacked from a distance imprecisely, and David Ebaksas scored 1 penalty of 2 and created a 2-point lead for Iraklis club – 85:83. During the rest of the last second of the match, J.Mačiulis caused Olivier Hanlan to miss and after scoring two penalties snatched extra time – 85:85.
Extra time was also point-to-point and with 20 seconds left to overtake AEK with two precise points with an opponent’s foul directed by Keith Langford – 97:95. AEK could not defend without a foul against the opponents attack and Joshua Haggins tied the score – 97:97. During the last attack, Daryl Maconas scored three points and AEK celebrated the victory – 100: 97.
The Lithuanian spent 25 minutes on the court, during which he scored 9 points (1/2 double, 1/2 trit., 4/4 penalty), bounced 3 balls, made 3 assists, intercepted 2 balls, caused 4 fouls, once he made a mistake, broke the rules 5 times and scored 13 utility points.
