In early June, representatives of a company submitted a request to the Police Department, expressing doubts that the IS-2 tank in Gargždelė village, Imbarė old age, Kretinga district, Orvidai farm-museum could be illegally exhibited.
According to the press release, the Kretinga district SC officers investigating the circumstances received the findings of specialists from the Lithuanian Police Criminal Investigation Center.
After inspecting the tank, they find that the rest of the IS-2 tank is installed in 1944. 122mm caliber production in 1943. Model D-25T cannon without shutter and firing mechanism, recoil brake destroyed, targeting mechanism, conduit contaminated with foreign objects.
In its current state, the barrel is not suitable for firing, but the barrel of the barrel is not deactivated. So filling in the object with the missing parts, doing some repairs, and cleaning the pipe channel creates a theoretical probability of firing at least one shot, which means the barrel is not completely unusable at the moment.
In accordance with the provisions of the Law on Arms and Ammunition Control of the Republic of Lithuania, cannons are classified as category “A” weapons and are prohibited from civil circulation unless deactivated (completely unusable) and obtained a certificate of deactivation.
The head of the Kretinga Police Station has already asked the director of the municipal administration to find a solution as soon as possible.
