According to the report, after an unprecedented winter and a warm March, April and May, and especially in mid-May, it did not show any heat. The average air temperature in the second decade of May was 4.6 degrees colder than normal perennial conditions.

The average air temperature in Lithuania in April was still close to the perennial norm: 6.5 degrees of heat, which is 0.2 degrees colder than the perennial norm.

“The average temperature in Lithuania in the first ten days of May was 10.3 degrees, the long-term air temperature in these ten days is 11.1 degrees. So the first ten days of May were 0.8 degrees cooler than usual ”Says Donatas Valiukas, climatologist at the Lithuanian Hydrometeorological Service.

According to him, the second of May 10 was much cooler than usual. The average air temperature in the second decade of May was 7.9 degrees, which is even 4.6 degrees cooler than normal perennial conditions.

Forecasters point out that since 1961 this is the third tenth coolest in May. It was colder only in 1978, when the average air temperature was 7.2 degrees and in 1980 it was 7.4 degrees.

According to the report, air temperatures were lower than normal in mid-May also in northern and eastern Europe, but in southern Europe heat was not typical for this period.

Meanwhile, the last calendar winter in Lithuania was the warmest during the entire period of weather observations. The average air temperature during the winter months was 2.6 degrees Celsius. In 1981-2010, the average winter air temperature in Lithuania was 2.8 degrees below zero.
