As the Minister of Social Security and Labor, Monika Navickienė, pointed out at the meeting, the plan of measures is being prepared, it is still possible to make modifications.
One of the proposals of the Ministry is to legalize one-person benefits.
“It is very important to emphasize here that the income of the people who receive the lowest benefits would be close to the size of the minimum consumption needs (260 euros – aut.p.)”, said M. Navickienė at the meeting.
The Minister also pointed out that the objective will be to review the veracity of all paid pensions.
“The goal is to look at the entire pension system in a comprehensive manner. If there are certain shortcomings, too small premiums, other things, then we have to identify and change them in that complex,” said M. Navickienė.

According to her, single-person benefits are expected to introduce “a better income balance for the most marginalized group.”
“Lonely people are at a very high risk of poverty when they are older. We are working together now to find the right time frame for when we can present this project and what it will look like, so that those one-person pensions reach their beneficiaries in 2022. I have enough hope in this measure, ”said the Minister of Social Security and Labor.
The presentation of the full plan of measures also highlighted the objective of “a comprehensive evaluation of the social assistance system in order to increase social assistance pensions more quickly, without denying work incentives.”
In turn, the representative of the Ministry Ugnė Užgalė seconded M. Navickienė and pointed out that the measure of the benefit per single person would be adequate to reduce the increased poverty experienced by single people of retirement age.
