“Now we plan to install 100 islands, this year 50. Seven have already been installed, several dozen more are being installed,” Vilnius Mayor Remigijus Šimašius told reporters at the opening of one of those islands in the Viršuliškės district .

“It is part of a big project to make sleeping areas more welcoming,” he added.

According to him, the price of an island, where several banks were built, various rubble was added, flowers and trees were planted, and the composition of the stones was fixed, the price reached 6.5 thousand. euro.

Residents love innovation

Elena, who works at one of the schools in the capital, watched the site open and told BNS that those islands bring comfort to the yards, promising to use the island.

Alma Rasimienė, 47, who attended the opening along with her husband, was also happy with the installed innovation, the woman said the capital’s courtyards lack quality space.

“We live here, we are very happy that we did, because the residential areas also need beautiful and cozy places,” the official told BNS.

Her husband, designer Darius Rasimas, 48, said the island solved a problem in the backyard.

“It solved one thing: Cars were parked here very often, we hope not to build now,” said a man who lived near BNS.

“There is a lack of parking spaces, it is problematic, but the street is close, it is half the problem,” said D. Rasimas.

Skirmantė, who watched the opening along with the children, said her parents live next to the installed island, and there is also a playground, so the installed island will be suitable for recreation.
