“We have consulted with the sports community about the solutions of the ice rink, we have planned which squares and which venues will be needed, but architectural solutions have a significant impact on the success and” attachment “of the city, that is why we want to be them known to the public, “says Vilnius City Deputy Mayor Valdas Benkunskas.
When requested in the municipal notification, Jotvingių st. the designed ice rink will be able to accommodate at least 950 spectators and around 100 athletes at a time. It is planned that the building will be equipped with two floors: a basement and a ground floor with a mezzanine.
The basement will be the only stone skating rink in Lithuania, consisting of two paths. Until now, the country’s athletes have trained in hockey fields, and the closest separate field for this type of curling has been available to athletes in Latvia. Along with it, a wardrobe complex for athletes, a skating rental point, warm-up rooms and figure skating choreographies have also been designed.
On the first floor of the stadium, it is planned to install two hockey fields, a tribune to watch the competition, as well as administrative premises and exhibition spaces. The hockey fields will be separated by a representative recreation area. This space is expected to be used during competition breaks, as well as a waiting room for parents of children attending non-formal education classes. A glass wall will be installed between the room and one of the hockey rinks, so it will also serve as a space for spectators to watch practice.
Dainius Zubrus, President of the Lietuva Hockey Association, says the arena project is great news for Vilnius residents, and especially for the hockey, curling, and figure and speed skating communities.
“Thanks to the activities of successful operating hockey schools and clubs in Vilnius, there is a growing interest in hockey, but it should be noted that the existing professional sports infrastructure in the Lithuanian capital has long been unsatisfactory,” Zubrus emphasizes. it will create quality conditions for children to participate in their favorite sports activities, and professional athletes will have greater opportunities to achieve high proficiency. Ultimately, the Vilnius hockey teams will have their own ‘home’ and will be able to compete with professional athletes from neighboring countries. “
All ice rink design work should be finished by 2022. at the beginning. After planning all the solutions, a public presentation of the project will be announced and the project will be submitted for public comment.
Preparer and author of project proposals UAB Projektu rengimo centras and UAB Tiksl forma. Project Coordinator and Deputy Project Director Ana Gurevičienė, Project Director Jokubas Fišeris.
