The report says a “soldier of the caliphate” is responsible for the attack in Vienna on Monday night, which killed four people.

In a separate statement, accompanied by a photo of an armed assailant, the ISIS Amaq propaganda unit spoke of “an armed attack by an ISIS fighter in Vienna yesterday (Monday).”

Amaq also released a short video in which an armed criminal filmed himself, pledging allegiance to the leader of the jihadist movement.

Austrian police said earlier on Tuesday that the alleged perpetrator of the attack, Kujtimas Fejzulai (Kuitimas Feizulajus), 20, described as an IS sympathizer, had previously been convicted of terrorism and was behind bars.

Fejzula began firing a machine gun in a crowded area of the Austrian capital on Monday night, killing four people. The shooter was killed by the police.

Austrian security forces raided 18 addresses, including the suspect’s home, and arrested 14 people. The agents searched for possible accomplices of the attacker and tried to find out if he was acting alone.

The attack came after several Islamist attacks in France in recent weeks, including an attack on a church in the Mediterranean city of Nice.
