Invisible obstacles and disqualification of the leader in the last stage of the Cross Country in Šilutė

Antanas Lučinskas, who prepared the almost 8 km long track, warned the participants to be careful, because the obstacle courses of both chopped wood and fitted tires are very slippery. Motorcyclists were also greeted by a special stretch of huge logs and rocks, jumps from a trailer, a swamp, a ditch in a tank ditch, and a jump on a parked double-tire trampoline. For this reason, many participants of the competition unanimously repeated: “Lithuania has never had such a difficult and complete test track.”

Competition manager According to judge Žilvinas Kazakevičius, these obstacles turned out to be a great discovery for beginners. However, there was no work for the doctors, which means the risk was measured, the route was safe.

It is true that tired or less skilled athletes could overcome these obstacles in the so-called fine line, popularly known as the “chicken line”. It’s safer to drive, but costly extra corners waste precious seconds.

The race required a lot of force, so even the leaders began to fall on the slippery track in the middle of it, and even the most experienced avoided driving on slippery tires, preferring to choose the “Chicken line” penalty wheels.

An intriguing fight

Although motorcyclists and ATVs competed in different classes, perhaps the greatest intrigue came down to the title of stage winner in the general classification. This time, Arūnas Gelažninkas, representative of the Zigmas Dakar team, decided to drive alone in training mode due to a hand injury received a week ago. He had a reserve of 15 points, so it was enough for A. Gelažninkas to cover half the track, that is, to drive for an hour. However, even “driving with one hand”, A.Gelažninkas raced for 90 minutes, which was enough to win the title of champion in the Enduro class.

Thus, the fight for victory in the general classification of the stage broke out between this year’s motocross champion Domantas Jazdauskas and the experienced Nerimantas Jucius and the young talent Džiugas Kazakevičius. Although Domantas Jazdauskas was more than half a minute behind Nerimantas Jucius just before the finish, the leader did not avoid technical problems: the motorcycle chain fell into the ski tire sector. Domantas managed to repair the motorcycle and finished first. However, the judges disqualified Domantas Jazdauskas for using outside help to repair the motorcycle. Therefore, Nerimantas Jucius became the winner of the stage in the general classification.

“Those tires where the chain fell before the finish was the hardest part for me. Driving the entire 7.7 km lap alone on them and I thought – how to overcome them ”, commented D. Jazdauskas about the fateful moment of the competition.

He was seconded by the young Džiugas Kazakevičius, who finished in the general classification after N. Jucius:

“It just came to our notice then. But after the second round, a full meat grinder was formed. So in some places I had to choose Chicken-line to get through in general. And the hardest part was a swamp with lots of water, so the motorcycle didn’t stop at all. “

“I tried to follow my tactics, drive a little more carefully, not make big mistakes. I fell a couple of times, a couple of times and the chain fell off. I finished second, but after Domant’s disqualification, it turned out to be the first. I am satisfied with this result “, commented the fastest rider of the stage N.Jucius.

In the four-wheeler race, the top three in the general classification looked like this: Aivis Graudinš, Nerijus Grabliauskas, Andrius Skučas.
