More than 67 thousand euros have already been paid
According to Lietuvos Draudimas, more than 67 thousand euros have already been paid to the company’s clients insured with Kasko insurance since the beginning of this year for the damage caused by the graves. Compared to the same period last year, the damage amounts are higher this year.
“Last year, looking at January and February, more than 32 thousand euros were paid for damages when hitting the pits, and this year, more than 49 thousand euros for the same period. Although the number of registered damages was the same.
Consequently, the damage done to cars is much higher this year. This can be affected by changing weather conditions, lots of snow, which deepens the pits. And the difference is especially visible when looking at the data for March: in the first four days the amount of losses already exceeds 17 thousand euros ”, says Giedrius Petrikas, head of the insurance company’s transport claims department.
Ten times more damage
According to the Transport Damage Expert, the first week of March shows a big difference in the number of damages compared to the same period last year: in March this year, 20 pothole-related damages were recorded and only two damages were recorded in the same period last year.
“It appears that the road surface did not withstand the spring thaw and caused a lot of inconvenience to drivers and road users. Such a large difference in damage compared to last year shows that the wells are rapidly deepening, difficult to circumvent, and the depth of scores is often unclear. Therefore, it is very important at this time to closely monitor the road surface, not rush, because it is possible to get into an unpleasant situation unexpectedly. Especially if a person has not insured the car with Kasko insurance, it may be necessary to considerably empty his wallet, ”says the representative of Lietuvos Draudimas.
According to the insurer, this year the maximum profit was almost 13 thousand euros, when the driver collided with the pits on the right side of the car and the tire, rim, chassis and frame were damaged. According to insurers, this year the average claim amount associated with damage from pits is just over nine hundred euros.
Metropolitan drivers suffer the most
According to data from Lietuvos Draudimas, this year most claims are calculated in Vilnius, Kaunas and the Vilnius district. According to the insurance representative, this may be influenced by an increased flow of cars, because despite the introduction of quarantine in the country, people travel longer distances to work, it is likely that most children will be transported to kindergartens by car.
“It is important to remember that spring is just beginning, and year after year we notice that the amount of pothole damage increases in the spring, so I want to urge drivers to pay attention to the road surface and drive safely. and responsible. “Share Giedrius Petrikas.
