Inspection of a 23-ton oil tank in Šalčininkai reveals significant cigarette smuggling

It later emerged that a significant part of the tank, after being separated and isolated from the rest of the volume, had become a smuggling cache of cigarettes. There, customs officials found 100,000. packages of Belarusian cigarettes “Minsk”, the value of which with mandatory taxes – 340 thousand. euros.

The tractor and cargo were detained, the driver was also detained and a pre-trial investigation for smuggling was launched at the Vilnius branch of the Criminal Customs Service (CCS). The investigation is led by the Vilnius Regional Prosecutor’s Office.

Subsequently, by decision of the Vilnius District Court, the truck driver was detained for three months and faces a fine or a prison sentence of up to eight years.
