According to the decision of the State Energy Regulatory Council (VERT), the price of public electricity supply will increase by approximately 8% from July, and the price of gas for households will increase between 26 and 50%.

For consumers who buy electricity from low-voltage networks, the maximum price will increase by 8.71 percent. at 12,385 cents per kWh (without VAT), from medium voltage networks – 8.07 percent. at 9,084 cents. Currently they are 11,393 and 8,406 cents respectively.

Gas

The price of cooking gas will increase by 26 percent. – between 50 and 63 cents per cubic meter (VAT included) and the fixed part would remain the same at 56 cents.

The biggest jump in prices – for gas heaters

What specific impact will the price increase have on household spending? How much will homeowners of different sizes have to pay more for electricity and gas?

Ignitis and VERT provide generalized calculations. Ignitis announces that the cost of electricity for a standard home, which consumes an average of about 100 kWh of electricity per month, will increase by about 1.16 euros per month. VERT provides similar calculations.

And heating the house with gas (up to 20 thousand cubic meters per year), Ignitis estimates, will cost about 14 euros more on average, while neighbors who use gas to feed themselves will pay 0.59 euros more per month on average.

Example 1: a two-room apartment will grow at the expense of electricity and gas

For this group, consumer gas becomes less expensive than for those who heat their homes with gas.

On average, this household consumes 7.5 cubic meters of natural gas per month and so far has paid about 4.3 euros per month. From July 1, Vilnius residents will pay more in euros per month: 5.3 euros.

For this two-room home, electricity will become more expensive in euros per month: Vilnius residents consuming 100 kilowatt hours will pay 15.2 euros per month for electricity (now 14.1 euros).

Example 2: The cost of electricity will increase in a three-bedroom apartment.

We also examined how much the bill would increase for a newly built three-room apartment in Vilnius. It is currently home to a family of four, a young couple with two young children. This home will only be affected by the rise in the price of electricity, since gas is not used for food production or for heating.

This family consumes about 400 kWh per month and pays about 56 euros per month. If the price of the kilowatt-hour increases from 0.14 euros to 0.15 euros, the bill will increase by 4 euros per month.

Example 3: in an individual house, the bills will increase in winter

The third example we have chosen is a single house in Vilnius, heated by gas, where 5 people live. This household signed a contract with an independent electricity provider at the end of last year and set the rate for one year, so electricity costs should not increase.

And the cost of heating for the residents of this house will increase dramatically. The house, built at the beginning of independence, heats an area of ​​250 square meters, so the cost of gas is higher in the winter months.

This winter, from December of last year to March of this year, an average of 790 cubic meters per month was used for heating and hot water and an average of € 225 was paid (€ 221 plus € 4 of subscription). With the entry into force of the new rates, the amount can increase up to one hundred euros in cold months, up to 324 euros. In spring and summer, of course, such costs will not be necessary.

The situation of this home as day and night differs from the average calculated by VERT – VERT calculates that consumers who heat their homes and consume 794 cubic meters. m / semester, pays 246.26 Eur per semester, and from 2021. The second half of the year will cost 349.48 euros, so expenses will increase by 103.22 euros during the first half of the year and in 17, 20 euros / month during the month.
