Police patrols in the territory under the supervision of the Alytus County Police Chief Commissioner have been intensified since the early days, and physical protection of places of accommodation is ensured 24 hours a day after refugee accommodation.
Officials of the anti-terrorist operations team “ARAS” are patrolling the county territory not only in Alytus, but also in Marijampolė, Kaunas, Vilnius.
As the SNB reported on Saturday, around a hundred soldiers on Saturday contributed to a patrol on the border with Belarus for Lithuania to curb the growing flows of illegal migration from the neighboring country.
“This morning, about a hundred soldiers began to provide assistance to the State Border Guard Service,” Capt. Eugenijus Steblys, an army representative, told BNS.
“We have activated the peacekeeping task force,” he added.
Soldiers from the Voluntary National Defense Forces will assist the border guards.
A total of 1,577 illegal immigrants were detained on the border with Belarus this year, mostly from the Middle East and Africa.
