“My mother was burned alive, she felt inhuman pain, we and my neighbors lost their homes. Now she can ruin the land, there can be no forgiveness,” said Gabrielė Petričenko, who lost her mother six months after the tragedy in Vilnius.
It was his daughter who took revenge on Vladislav Nupreičik, a Vilnius man now accused of killing two people in a life-threatening way: the Vilnius Regional Court opened a criminal case against him on Wednesday.
This was the first time that victims saw V. Nupreičikas: On the eve of last New Year, a man who set fire to a wooden apartment building on Geležinės Street was detained only in mid-January. He is still detained.
According to the case, up to eight families were affected by the fire, which claimed the lives of 74 and 55-year-old women; Firefighters managed to shut down the wooden house in just four hours, but nothing was left of it.
You see pictures of the tragedy so far
During the pre-trial investigation, it was established that on December 30 of last year, around 3 o’clock, V. Nupreičikas poured flammable liquid onto the walls of the wooden house in the stairwell and set it on fire: the road was cut off for residents, the house soon burned down. The dead women lived on the second floor of the house, and two other residents of the house suffered serious injuries while trying to escape.
“I woke up at three at night, the electricity suddenly went out,” said Petrichenko, who burned his face and hands during the fire. – I went to see what had happened and I saw that the fire was already flowing through the door, then I woke up my friend, we ran towards the door, but the fire was already going through them and we were scared and confused: we opened the door … And then a flash of fire on me, my friend managed to run into the country; everything burned, it’s scary to even remember it. So a friend took me out the window right away, I could only ask for help because my mom was inside. I screamed, but it was too late: the fire penetrated in all directions. Today, I am afraid to think about the pain my mother felt; after all, it burned alive. As if we were reluctant, but there is no way we can save her. “
Not only G. Petričenko, but also her neighbor, felt special suffering before her death, only when the flames were suppressed, firefighters found the bodies of severely burned women among the burners.
Officials did not have to search for the causes of the accident for a long time; Already during the first interview, G. Petričenko, who had lost her mother, told investigators that her daughter’s former friend may have set the house on fire.
“He, Romeo, wanted to scare his girlfriend, but he didn’t want to burn down the house, just to scare him,” said Olga Zykova of the cause of the tragedy. The woman also owns an apartment in a burned-out house, but that night neither she nor her family members were at home.
I wanted to look into my eyes
“Today, at least I looked him in the eye,” the woman admitted, “he is still afraid to remember the images he saw after the fire.” After all, she and her brother and mother living together could have died.

V. Nupreičikas, suspected of causing the tragic fire, admitted the charges made against him during the pre-trial investigation, but will express his position in court only after all victims and witnesses have been questioned. The court promises to start questioning them at a hearing scheduled for the end of September.
And while the case is pending, Petrichenko has been declared a victim. Delphi He admitted that he could never forgive the accused.
“My daughter was friends with him, in my opinion, she did it on purpose because her daughter broke up with him and she no longer wanted to deal with him,” she said. “Of course, I didn’t want anyone to die, but I had to realize that: I knew perfectly well that me and my mother, my friend and the neighbors, lived in the house. I knew very well that everyone was home that night. Only my daughter, whom he avenged, was not there that night. “
The woman said that her daughter had been friends with Nupreičik for only two or three weeks, but just before the New Year she decided to end any relationship with her husband.
He sent a message
“The last time I saw him was Christmas: he came, sat at the table, he seemed like a good guy, but when he stayed longer, he drank too much and began to behave aggressively; he started pushing my daughter and serving coffee. She left it, I saw an SMS message she wrote on her phone: I’ll still get revenge on you for leaving me. That’s what she did, but isn’t the price of revenge too high?
The victim said officers had detained her daughter for two weeks while searching for the arsonist:. I immediately said that his work here, I felt, because everything happened so fast, it could be that he didn’t even plan, he just wanted to scare or joke. “
Ms. Petrichenko said that Ms. Nupreichik, accused of killing two people, sent her condolences to her family through her lawyer. “But since I don’t need it, I lost my mother, I won’t move her anymore, and I don’t have a house, now I have to live in a rented apartment,” he said.
The victim hopes that if V. Nupreičikas’ guilt is proven in court, he will be sentenced to the most severe punishment provided by law.
“I don’t think Vladislav will be released, the prison will change him a lot: he ruined his life himself, now he will not correct these mistakes, he will let him sit for 20 years or more and think, but I very much doubt that he understands it,” said G. Petrichenko
When asked if she could forgive V. Nupreičikas, the woman even got excited: Now she can squeeze the floor, there can be no forgiveness. “
