The plane crash occurred around 8:50 pm local time near the city of Chukhiv, in the Kharkiv region, about 2 kilometers from the military airfield. A plane belonging to the Ukrainian military unit A-4104 crashed and caught fire.
There were 28 people on the plane: crew and cadets. 22 people died and two were seriously injured at the scene of the disaster. The search for four people continues. There is evidence that they were able to jump out of the crashed plane before it caught fire.
Military pilots and cadets from the I. Kozedubas Air Force University flew the plane.
According to one version, the accident could have been caused by an error by the crew. It is believed that the pilots may have mistaken the airfield runway for the road.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky vows to go to the Kharkiv region on Saturday due to the disaster.
“We are urgently creating a commission to investigate all the circumstances and causes of the tragedy. I gave the appropriate instruction to the Prime Minister. A search team is already working on the scene. Tomorrow I will be in the Kharkov region,” the president wrote on Facebook on Friday.
