In the Seimas, there is a proposal to give a “mother’s day” to parents who raise a child

Such an amendment to the Labor Code was registered by the Social Democrat Gintautas Paluckas, a member of the Seimas, along with other Social Democrats of the Seimas.

Currently, the Labor Code stipulates that the so-called “Father’s Day” or “Mother’s Day”, which is an additional day off to raise or educate a child, belongs only to employed persons who have two children under twelve or a disabled child under the age of eighteen.

“This makes it especially difficult for workers raising a child, and especially for mothers or fathers raising a child alone, because it makes it difficult to reconcile work and family responsibilities. An additional day off, of more universal application, can help to facilitate the reconciliation of family and work responsibilities, ”says Seimas member G. Paluckas, the initiator of the project.

Under the current Labor Code, an additional day of rest per month (or a reduction of two hours per week) is granted to employees who raise a disabled child under the age of eighteen or two children under the age of twelve.

At the request of employees working shifts of more than eight hours, this additional rest period may be added every three months.
