Racing Point driver Sergio Pérez, who was on the first lap after the first lap incident, triumphed in the Sakhiro GP race, which was full of events and curves.
George Russell, who replaced Lewis Hamilton on the Mercedes team, took the lead after the start. Meanwhile, poor qualifier Waltter Bott was trying to keep Max Verstappen, Sergio Perez and Charles Leclerc behind him. The latter blocked the wheels in the fourth corner and hit S. Pérez, who fell at the end of the line after contact. Meanwhile, Verstappen, trying to avoid contact, found himself off the track and crashed into a protective wall.
With the safety car off the track and the race resumed, Russell took first place and simultaneously gained a few seconds ahead of his teammate V. Bott. The young Briton was the first of the Mercedes team to make the first stop. V. Bottas did it at five laps. But due to the longer stay on the track, the Finns returned to the track from G. Russello after the first stop, almost 8 seconds late. Finland managed to reduce the delay to 5 seconds, but then a safety car reappeared on the track due to the accident of Jack Aitken.
With a significant advantage over its rivals, Mercedes decided to invite both drivers to stop. But during the stop, Mr. Russell’s car was fitted with different tires and he only realized this when he started swapping wheels for Mr. Botott. So the team was forced to invite Mr. Russell to another stop. After such a mistake by Mercedes, Bott and Russell were in fourth and fifth place, and Pérez became the leader.
