From the morning, the transport queues were extended on Tilžės street, Šilutė street at repair sites, Kooperacijos, Liepų streets, on the school bridge.
Those who do not know that Pilies Street is closed are forming traffic jams on Naujoji Uosto Street.
After noon, more than half of the city’s buses are already late; its delay is about 20 minutes.
Mindaugas Džermeika, head of the Highway Police Service of the Klaipeda Police Chief Commissariat, did not hide that the situation in the city is very bad, all the arterial streets are really blocked, but it will be even worse, around 4 p.m. at 5 p.m., when people finish work and move home.
“Therefore, our advice is to try not to attack everyone on the streets at once.” If possible, quit your job sooner, or perhaps quit later. The most important thing is that not everyone goes out at the same time. If possible, leave your car and use public transportation. Now nothing can be done, so we need maximum patience and tolerance, ”said M. Džermeika.
He is convinced that what is happening in the city is now the fault of the Klaipeda municipality.
“When Klaipėdos šventės held a meeting on the organization of the Festival of the Sea, we, the Highway Police, were the only ones to say that it is not possible to organize a fair on Pilies Street, it should move to the Cruise Terminal, which is now empty We said that it is not possible to restrict traffic on Minija and Pilies streets, because the Šilutė road is crowded. But no one listened, shook hands, did not explain, everything has already been decided. That is what we are doing now. And it comes up to us once again: help, and we’re not doing something and we can help. Of course, we can build teams at the intersection of the Tilžė and Šilutė highways to regulate traffic. But it’s worth regulating when there’s no place to inject all that traffic because all the streets are congested. There are only a lot of city cars, and there are also guests who are not catching up, since the traffic is going now “, – M. Džermeika did not try to cover the comp distance from the situation.
Therefore, according to him, police teams are only on duty at the intersection of Minija and Pilies streets, directing cars that want to enter Pilies street in another way, because “after all, we cannot allow merchants enter. ”
“Of course, when there is a meeting after the Festival of the Sea about how it worked, I will say that the traffic management decisions were incorrect, because our strategic proposals were transmitted.” However, I understand that drivers will not be comfortable with this right now. But there is no other option: the transport only has to go alone. Therefore, all that remains is to wish everyone patience, and we are intensively looking for various solutions to at least facilitate traffic, ”said M. Džermeika.
