According to a police spokeswoman, a pre-trial investigation into the cause of death was launched into the incident.

Lithuanian Railways representative Tomas Digaitis told BNS that a freight train driver used both an audible signal and an emergency stop, but that the collision could not be avoided.

“The driver saw a distant woman near the rails while driving, when a few hundred meters away they left, the woman got on the rails talking on the phone,” he said.

According to the representative of the Lithuanian Railways, while the police are working on the site, freight train traffic in this section has been temporarily suspended.
