“I have decided to call the head of our diplomatic mission in Minsk for consultations in order to express our solidarity with Lithuania and Poland,” the minister wrote on his Twitter account.

“The actions of the Belarusian authorities against the member states of the European Union are unacceptable. The EU is united to support the people of Belarus,” he said.

Minsk, in response to EU sanctions against Belarusian officials linked to electoral manipulation and violence against protesters, withdrew its ambassador from Vilnius and Warsaw for consultations last week.

Also, Belarus called on Lithuania and Poland to take a similar step and reduce the number of diplomats working in Minsk.

Lithuania and Poland called their ambassadors for consultations this week. According to diplomatic sources, this decision was due to pressure from Minsk and the threat that the ambassadors would be declared undesirable. Lithuania and Poland do not agree to cut diplomatic staff.

In solidarity with Vilnius and Warsaw, Estonia and Latvia also called their ambassadors for consultations on Wednesday.
