Police in Sarpsborg, south of Oslo, told Twitter on Tuesday before midnight that “several people had been stabbed in various places.”
Police later said three women had been injured, two of them in critical condition, and one had been arrested.
Several Norwegian media reported that a woman died from her injuries.
According to broadcaster NRK, one of the victims identified the attacker. A person was detained at an unnamed address in the center of Sarpsborg.
The motives for the attack are not yet known, but the local newspaper Sarpsborg Arbeiderblad quoted the husband of one of the victims as saying that the attacker had arrived at his home.
“We were watching television, and then the door knocked. When I opened it, he [užpuolikas] He tried to stab me, but I ran away, ”the man told the newspaper.
The intruder then broke in and scratched the woman’s hand.
