In Minsk, police used water cannons to arrest protesters

“A water cannon was used in Minsk,” Volha Chemodanova, a spokesman for the Belarusian Interior Ministry, told AFP.

“There have been arrests,” he added, without elaborating.

Several journalists were arrested

Three journalists were arrested in Vitebsk on Sunday during an unauthorized protest, and two more in Grodno, according to the Telegram channel of the largest Belarusian portal tut.by.

“In Vitebsk, police officers brought tut.by and BelaPAN correspondent Tacian Macvejev and tut.by and photojournalist Ales Pileckis from Narodnaya newspaper flew to the district’s interior department,” the report says.

According to the Belarusian Journalists Association, Siarhei Serabro, an employee of Narodny Novosti Vitebska, was also detained in Vitebsk.

In addition, police officers brought tut.by and Narodnaya volia correspondent Volha Kamiahina and tut.by and Narodnaya volia photojournalist Kaciaryna Gardzhev to the Grodno unit.

Nadezhda Puzhinskaya, a video reporter for the local newspaper Silnys novosti, was arrested in Gomel on Sunday, and the publication’s founder, Pyotr Kuznecov, posted on Facebook.
