A tractor that ran off the road in Kaunas on Monday clogged a BMW car and injured two people. The truck driver later died.
Head of the Situation Coordination Division of the Fire Protection and Rescue Department (PAGD). Specialist Miroslav Gerasimovičius informed BNS that the accident took place on R. Kalantos Street at around 5:18 pm.
“The tractor driver is being resuscitated by doctors and the car driver was taken to hospital by doctors,” said a PAGD representative.
According to him, during the accident, the tractor fell off the cliff.
According to the police department, the accident occurred when the Man van, driven by a man born in 1974, obstructed the Audi Q3, driven by a woman born in 1975, and the BMW X6, driven by a woman born in 1968, in the same direction.
M. Gerasimovičius also claimed that the driver of the tractor was not pressed into the cab of the vehicle.
Emergency services are currently operating at the site.
Witnesses to the incident told the kauno.diena.lt portal that traffic in this place has completely stopped, huge traffic jams are forming.
“Pedestrians are temporarily allowed to cross the road, the tractor closed the tunnel,” said the portal’s readers.
Around 7 p.m., according to the portal, traffic has started to resume and BMW is preparing to pull out a technical assistance vehicle. Then the tractor trailer will be arranged.
