MKT announced that the count of smuggled cigarettes (around 60,000 packs in total), which were detected by the Medininkai post office in October, had been completed on cinder blocks shipped from Belarus.
Another shipment (15 thousand packages) of illegal Belarusian smokers was stopped in Šalčininkai at the end of October: cigarettes were unloaded in a shipment of Ukrainian furniture transported to Klaipėda.
The Daf cargo truck driven by a Belarusian citizen arrived at the Medininkai roadside post on October 21. The driver of the machine stated that he was transporting a load of cement blocks to a Lithuanian company engaged in logistics services. However, customs officials found the suspicious route and Daf decided to check the X-ray control system. It soon became clear that all the blocks were hollow and that Belarusian cigarettes NZ Gold and Fest were in the hiding places.

The shipment was detained and a pre-trial investigation into this smuggling was launched by the Vilnius Section of the Criminal Customs Service (CCS), led by the Vilnius Regional Prosecutor’s Office. The tractor driver was placed in preventive custody to periodically register with the police.
Due to the large number of smuggled detainees and complex demolition works, the dismantling of all the blocks took some time. So, only in these days it turned out that in total the truck transported more than 60 thousand. smoking packages, the value of which is about 180 thousand. euros.
Another large shipment of cigarettes was smuggled on October 25 by customs officials at the Šalčininkai roadside post, who found cigarettes among a shipment of furniture transported from Ukraine.

Later, a Ukrainian national who arrived at the Šalčininkai roadside stand with a Renault Master shipment declared that he was transporting furniture cargo to Klaipėda. However, customs officials did not need a detailed inspection to ensure that the driver was also carrying a secret cargo; as soon as the side awning was raised, a cigarette box was also found among the furniture. By the way, it was full of smoke in the furniture itself, hidden in its upholstery.
A total of 15,000 packages of Minsk cigarettes were found, the value of which is about 48 thousand. euros.
A pre-trial investigation into smuggling has been launched, led by the Vilnius Regional Public Prosecutor’s Office, in the Vilnius Section of the Criminal Customs Service and in connection with this smuggling case. The driver of the car was detained for two months by decision of the Vilnius District Court.
