The car, driven by a 10-year-old boy and his father along with several other travelers, got stuck near the Queensland town of Mount Aiza on Sunday night, according to a statement from the RACQ LifeFlight Rescue rescue service.

After spending the night in the car, the boy and the father stayed in the vehicle and three of his companions went to ask for help. They traveled 50 kilometers on foot and arrived at a local police post on Monday night.

They were able to map the location of the father and son. Then a rescue operation was launched.

Rescuers arriving by helicopter found a father and son sitting on the roof of the car. They were unharmed, both transported back to Mount Gulf.

According to rescuers, despite the ordeal, the travelers were in a good mood. Authorities emphasized that the survivors were easy to find because they did not get out of the car.

“Although they had to wait a long time for rescue, they remained in their vehicle until help arrived,” said Russell Proctor, RACQ LifeFlight Resque pilot.

Australia is currently experiencing a weather phenomenon called La Niña, which is bringing more rain than usual, which has increased the risk of flash floods.
