Kaunas team “Žalgiris” (2/13) got an easy victory in the Lithuanian Basketball League (“Betsafe-LKL”) 78:47 (22:18, 23:14, 12: 8, 21: 7) crushed “Nevėžis” by Kėdainiai (6/13).
A. Milaknis became the LKL player with the most 3-point hits tonight (845). He edged out Giedrius Pečiulionis, who hit 844 long shots during his career. In third place with 738 triples – Mindaugas Lukauskis.
The three-point shooting allowed Nevėžis-Optibet not to lag far behind the rivals (6: 8), but Žalgiris also used the same weapon, they managed to increase the difference – 15: 8. Panagiotis Kalaitzakis and Sedrick Barefield reduced the distance again of Kėdainiai, and Ariel Hukporti made the difference to the point: 16:17. A.Rubitas did his job and “Žalgiris” finished half ahead at 22:18.
In the second quarter, Žalgiris became more active to demonstrate his advantage and gained a double-digit advantage: 31:21. Soon Artūras Milaknis added a triple, the “Nevėžis” attacks stalled, so the gap grew – 43:29. Before the long break, “Žalgiris” felt more confident – 45:32.
Žalgiris started the third quarter increasing the lead to 20 points (55:35), Marius Grigonis added fines and the Kėdainiai club’s attack did not advance. In the 10 minutes, the total gain was only 8 points, which worsened the situation before the last quarter: 40:57.
Kėdainiai’s team scored just five players, so Žalgiris didn’t need much effort to stay ahead. In the end, the end was just a formality, as victory was already in the hands of the guests.
