The main hobby is the production of commemorative postcards.
Deveikienė’s main hobby is production of commemorative postcards. The woman started doing it five years ago, when her daughter Vilma’s photography exhibition needed invitations.
“They asked me to make invitations, I bought all the supplies, I made those invitations and I got stuck. Then I began to learn, to improve, I enjoyed it now like fishing – like a disease – said the interlocutor with a laugh. “Initially, I only made postcards for friends, but when I received sales requests, I produced an individual activity certificate and started placing orders.”

I. Deveikienė A nurse works in the children’s ward of the Utena Hospital. According to the woman, the pandemic period at work takes much longer, so she has much less creativity left in her work in recent years than before.
When asked if she had graduated from art school and perhaps ever considered choosing an artist when choosing a profession, I. Deveikienė said that the artist’s vein was “her own”, and there was never any consideration in choosing another. thing.

“My mother is a folk artist who weaves wicker baskets. Now, both due to age and illness, they are still being stolen, and in the past they used to go to fairs with their father and sell them. Daughter and son graduated from art school, daughter Vilma is a professional photographer.
And I chose the medicine on purpose. From a very young age, that I remember, I cured dolls. He had no idea of standing anywhere else. I like working with people, especially with children; they are very active, they recover very quickly. “You come on duty, you get sick, you come to another, you are already in bed,” said the interlocutor with a smile.
The first job is a fairy tale house.
The impressive cardboard church is not the first work of its kind by I. Deveikienė. A couple of years ago, he built a fairy tale house.
“Two years ago, I saw fairy tale houses made by foreign artists on YouTube. I really liked them. So I longed to do this here and now, and it was Christmas. But when I did it, it came out completely summery,” said the interlocutor with a smile.
– Then the man says: well, go, you built a house, all I have to do is build a church. When I got back from work, I found that the entire casing was already done. And then the creative process began. Due to lack of time, everything took about two years. I wanted to guess last Christmas, but unfortunately I only managed to finish it in mid-January of this year. “
The fairy tale house created by I.Deveikienė went to Samogitia, and Ms. Ilona says she will keep the church for her: “There is so much of my creation, spirit and love here.”
The church is made of pizza boxes.
When asked to tell how a cardboard church was built, I. Deveikien really said that she had not actually invented any bicycle, that various techniques could be learned online, and then whatever she liked could be adapted to her. job.
Here a man, Arūnas, ran to the rescue, constructing the building itself, the roof, the tiles, the doors, and the floors out of pizza boxes.
The entire church, according to the interlocutor, is primed with a special white primer to minimize deformation of the paper when painted with acrylic paint.
“I painted the ceiling dark blue with shadows, then whitewashed and waxed green, to make it look more natural,” said I.Deveikienė.

The doors open as shown in the photos, you can also take a look through the frosted boxes, which are made from a plastic folder for binding documents:
“I cut that plastic and frosted the structural paste and stencil.”

“The landscape was covered with a model, painted with acrylic paint, then a white structural paste with scratches was used, then structural snow paste and dusted with artificial ice crystals.
We made the foundation from cardboard egg trays. I tore those cardboard boxes into pieces, covered the edges with glue, and glued the foundation together. They were primed (the surface is rough), they were painted black and then, with white paint and green wax, they came out as mottled natural stones, ”said the creator of the cardboard church.
I.Deveikienė said that she had unloaded the Christmas trees, lanterns and door handles visible in the church environment, and that she herself had decorated the Christmas trees with decorative bubbles and structural snow paste:
“I made the benches myself. Clock, picture frames, fireplace molded from the model according to the shapes. After pouring those shapes, they are painted with acrylic paint, then waxed, with the help of wax shadows are made to make them look 3D ”.
The hardest thing is to conduct electricity.
The height of the cardboard church is 50 cm, the length is 41, and the width is 24 cm. Asked what was the most difficult, the interlocutor said that to get the electricity:
“It just came to our knowledge then. I downloaded those lights, they are not small, but like a hair on wire. The hardest part was combining them into a single chain so it doesn’t snap and break.

So, at the bottom of the landscape, the man made grooves and put everything together so that when it lights up, it lights up immediately. Inside, small Christmas garlands were used, I took them out and glued them. All lighting works by elements and can be combined with all bulbs or separately only outside or inside.

There was nothing particularly difficult for me, maybe it would just highlight the window frames, they had to be cut to stay solid.
And anyway, I really enjoyed it all. I saw how I wanted to do everything, both the benches inside and the floor, I liked to paint, cut. True, he may not have built the church itself, so the man helped here. And it was a pleasure for me to decorate, ”said I.Deveikienė with a smile.
