“The circulation restrictions now in force are valid until March 15. If it will be necessary to consider movement restrictions for the Easter holidays, it will not really be answered now, since much will depend on the epidemiological situation. Now we are going to propose restrictions from mid-March more in line with the epidemiological situation of a particular municipality.

In other words, in those municipalities where the situation is getting worse, movement restrictions would be more related to them than movements between municipalities, where the epidemiological situation is possible and quite mediocre, ”explained the Prime Minister.

We remind you that the restrictions on movement between municipalities have been extended until mid-March, quarantine, until the beginning of April.

Why did you decide to ease the quarantine earlier?

The government decided on Wednesday to release some quarantine conditions. Up to five people are allowed to meet in open public spaces, two different households can meet or celebrate outdoors and open cultural spaces. Read more here.

When asked why he decided to accept this relaxation of quarantine conditions, which still do not fully comply with the release plan drawn up by the Government according to epidemiological indicators, I. Šimonytė emphasized that in the spring, as it improves the weather, people pretend to be more outdoors than in stores.

“When we presented the plan, I already said it then, and now I can repeat that this is definitely not something set in stone. In a discussion with cultural councils on Monday about cultural institutions, as cultural institutions pose their start-up questions in a rather debatable way (…) when assessing the conditions under which cultural institutions could operate, it could not have a final verdict on those proposals as they swim and many people have many ideas.

But some principles are quite clear: first, that we can really talk about outdoor activities since spring began, people can be more outdoors, less crowded with stores that have opened, other institutions, and take the opportunity to improve. the weather, ”explained the Prime Minister.

On Wednesday, the Cabinet of Ministers decided to allow open cultural spaces, and closed cultural institutions, according to I. Šimonytė, could open only in those municipalities where the incidence of the coronavirus is lower.

The Cabinet will consider such a proposal next Wednesday.

And the other proposal was precisely for the rapprochement of the municipalities, that is, in the municipalities where the situation is better, cultural institutions and those that are closed could begin to operate. As a result, I believe that the government will be able to make decisions next Wednesday, ”summarized the prime minister.

According to data from the Department of Statistics, currently this indicator in Lithuania reaches 255 new cases per 100 thousand. population.
