3,737 COVID-19 cases were confirmed in Lithuania on Tuesday, 50 people died, virus outbreaks broke out in residences, hospitals and businesses.
When asked in the Seimas on Wednesday, I. Šimonytė said that more stringent measures were necessary, for example introducing a state of emergency, if the number of sick and dead people did not decrease.

“We just realized that there were such intentions. For the moment, it’s really important to note that the numbers we’re seeing now are probably quite a lot and the pre-quarantine activity that has been. In addition, both in the supermarkets and in the people who used the last minute before closing certain stores and saw the need for congestion in the stores, “he said.
In hospitals, according to I. Šimonytė, we see victims from the previous period.
So far, as the prime minister said, it is not easy to tell the results of the new quarantine restrictions.
“The movement data from Google was received yesterday, we also have the movement data from Apple. Surely the mobility is reduced. And probably next week it will be possible to talk about how these restrictions really work or do not affect the number of new cases”, said.
At the same time, I. Šimonytė emphasized that the number of new cases of COVID-19 is very high. The tests are said to have obviously not shown the real situation for a long time.
“It is very unfortunate that there are people who do not comply with the quarantine requirements and still consider that the situation is not serious enough. But whether or not some additional stricter measures will be needed, I’m certainly not ready to answer today. We will monitor the situation every day, assess and decide accordingly, ”said the Prime Minister.
