Prime Minister Ingrida Šimonytė says the government should make quarantine decisions on Friday.
“I think the decisions will definitely be made tomorrow morning. We would like the Communicable Diseases Act to be signed, because we would like to make those decisions together related to testing people in certain activities,” the Prime Minister told journalists at the Seimas.
However, he did not mention specific measures to consider, and when asked whether border closures are being considered for those arriving in Lithuania, he said that Lithuanian citizens will always be able to come, regardless of the decisions that are made.
“People who are citizens of the Republic of Lithuania will still be able to come, regardless of the solutions. Now, I don’t want to name any specific decision that is being considered, because if I name them, they will become headlines and some future decision annotations.” , noted I. Šimonytė.
He indicated that the decisions will sound when they are made.
“The situation is already so tense, people are tired, some considerations that are raised aside from some as good ideas, and someone is immediately rejected; I do not think that much discussion is needed in public,” the prime minister said.
On Tuesday, the prime minister announced that two cases of the South African coronavirus strain had been identified in Lithuania. According to the Prime Minister, certain quarantine adjustments may need to be considered in response to this information.
He also said that due to the epidemiological situation, there is no reason to speak of additional quarantine relief in the near future.
