The Statute of the Seimas establishes that the parliamentary factions considering the candidacy of the Prime Minister have the right to invite a candidate to the sessions.

First of all, I. Šimonytė visited the meeting of the largest opposition faction in the Seimas: the Lithuanian Union of Peasants and Greens. It is true that this meeting was extremely short.

In the LSDP faction of the Seimas, I. Šimonytė took longer.

“Is it unlikely that there will be more than a minute here?”

Defined your place

Members of the Seimas LSDP faction had questions about I. Šimonyte about taxes, budget, education.

Suppose Gintautas Paluckas asked the candidates for prime minister about reducing the diversity of economic activities. Rasa Budbergytė had a question about the transparency of the state budget.

Linas Jonauskas was interested in whether I. Šimonytė has measures to increase forest cover, how they will correlate with the statement of the candidate for Minister of the Environment Simonas Gentvilas in this regard.

I.Šimonytė blocked S. Gentvilas. According to her, if the candidacy of this politician is approved, he will have to take urgent measures to heal the wounds allegedly left by the outgoing “peasant” Minister of the Environment Kęstutis Mažeika.

After receiving a question from MP Kęstutis Vilkauskas about whether he is in favor of internal centralization or decentralization of municipalities, I. Šimonytė explained that he was never in favor of centralization.

According to her, many things people can decide for themselves: both in the family and in the community.

“And even communities can very often play some part of a government or self-government role. And for me, that is important as a person, but that is involved in politics with a conservative and Christian Democratic force. While people make fun of me for being the conservative on the left or the socialist on the right, here, however you like, I think I’m fine from the center, and I think that matters.

But again, we have to look at it also from an efficiency point of view. Because you can go to many levels of government and then it means that at each level of government you have some problems and some material losses because people make decisions, you need some administrative skills everywhere. Lithuania is a small country, we just need to create an optimal system, ”said I. Šimonytė.

He offered to speak to E. Dobrovolska themselves.

Julius Sabatauskas congratulated the proposed balanced cabinet.

At the same time, however, he said there was concern in the legal community for Evelina Dobrovolska, who was appointed Minister of Justice and whose candidacy had been controversially accepted, perhaps not so much because of her young age, but because of her lack of education and political experience.

“Probably all nominations, whatever they are submitted, always get someone’s support, someone’s comments. You know very well that in the coalition we have a party that could be called political. start up probably no bad thoughts. And really, sometimes and politically start-up’am succeed. (…) But that means that it is not very easy to have some kind of spare bench for people who could be up and ready come join the government.

I understand that observation, we will evaluate, we will see, we will talk. And I think that would probably be my best suggestion – I suggested the same to my group because there were those questions – just invite someone to speak. I believe that then you would not listen to what the legal community says, but you would speak directly with the person and you will be able to self-evaluate your opinion: if one or the other candidate is suitable or not, ”said the candidate for prime minister.

In evaluating the meeting with I. Šimonyte, G. Paluckas stated that he answered some questions very fluently or deliberately avoided a direct answer.

“It just came to our knowledge then. Therefore, what will be written in the Government’s draft program, we will evaluate it, present our comments, present our assessment and present our decision, position – support or not,” commented the president of the LSDP.

At the same time, however, the political scientist noted that several potential ministers are newcomers to mainstream politics, which can cause difficulties when taking office.
