62 deputies voted in favor of I. Šimonytė’s candidacy, 10 against, 41 members of the Seimas abstained.

“I thank those who supported my candidacy, I also thank those who did not. I want to say one thing and assure you that all those whom I did not persuade, but who wanted to talk to me or have some kind of discussion, or solve some problems, or offer something constructive … I will definitely always be open to those people “, – after the vote declared I. Šimonytė.

I. Šimonytė was nominated by the center-right Lithuanian Christian Democratic National Union (TS-LKD) party, the Freedom Party and the Liberal Movement, which formed the ruling coalition.

Due to the infections found, some COVID-19 rulers had to remain in self-isolation and were unable to vote.

Before the vote, Ramūnas Karbauskis, leader of the Lithuanian Peasants and Greens Union, said that the “peasants” would not support Ingrida Šimonytė’s candidacy for prime minister because the list of ministerial candidates proposed by politicians was surprisingly weak. The Lithuanian Social Democratic Party faction said at the time that a mixed group of Seimas members would vote freely.

We remind you that the Prime Minister of Lithuania is appointed by the President with the approval of the Seimas. The Prime Minister, no later than 15 days after his appointment, will present to the Seimas the Government formed by him and approved by the President, and will submit his program for consideration. The government is authorized to act when the Seimas, by a majority of the members present at the session, approves its program.

I. Šimonytė, 46, topped the list of Lithuanian Christian Democrats in the National Union in the October elections to the Seimas. Although he does not belong to the party, he is elected to the Seimas with the Conservatives for the second time. In the government of Andrius Kubilius, I. Šimonytė was the Minister of Finance.
