“The forecast for today is not so good, but next week we will expect something bigger than usual, but so far it is just a forecast, it is very difficult to estimate before the warm temperature arrives,” BNS told the Hydrometeorological Service of Forecasts. and Senior Warning Specialist Janina Brastovickytė-Stankevič.

“The forecast will be more accurate on Monday, when Sunday will be warm and we’ll see what happens,” he added.

According to the specialist, although there are no precise forecasts yet, a flood similar to that of 2010 is currently expected.

“Everything could spill over again in Neris near Radikiai, we don’t see anything special in Vilnius to this day, the level will go up a bit, but the Cathedral will definitely not overflow, and the natural levels in the Nemunas will be reached in the part lower – Šilutė district, “said the specialist.

She claims that no major and catastrophic floods have been seen so far.

In Lithuania, according to the hydrologist, there may be several problem places during humidity, where the water level of rivers can rise significantly.

“We believe that in Nevėžys near Babtai there may be a higher rise in the water level, as well as in Minija near Lankupiai, in Akmenė near Kretinga and Klaipėda there is a possibility that the water will rise in Denmark,” said Janina Brastovickytė- Stankevič.

Šilutė is ready for the flood

Virgilijus Pozingis, director of the Šilutė district municipal administration, told BNS that there should be no major floods so far, but that he is prepared for an even worse scenario.

“100 percent. We are ready. Today, it seems that there is no great danger, but if the situation changes suddenly, everything can be,” said V. Pozingis.

“The overpass was built in Rusne; the problem of the island of Ruse, as they say, has already been solved. Of course, there are other settlements, but if someone needs help, they will provide it,” he added.

According to the representative of the municipality, it is planned to help the neighbors with food and transport.

“If necessary, we will also help with the transportation of food, all necessary help,” said the director of the Šilutė district municipal administration.

The Hydrometeorological Service reports that the weather will change suddenly during the weekend. As the heat flows, lijundra and flakes will form and become slippery.

On Saturday rain and fog are expected, with temperatures reaching 2 degrees Celsius to 3 degrees Celsius.

On Sunday night rain, fog is expected, during the day – without significant rainfall, at night – from 3 degrees to 2 degrees Celsius, during the day – from 1 to 6 degrees of heat.
