According to Neringa Kolkaitė, Marketing and Communication Representative of Vilnius Municipality, the news portal was launched in January and up to 3,000 people had to participate. However, when everything went wrong at the start of the pandemic, the permit was issued to only 1,000 participants.
When asked if she knew who organized the march, the representative said that she could not reveal the details of the natural person requesting the permit due to the General Data Protection Regulation (BDAR).
The event is advertised on the social network Facebook under the name “Vilnius pride 2020”. The number of those who promise to participate is still 637, and the number of interested people is more than 2,000.
“By organizing this event, we want to: protest against laws that discriminate against LGBTQ + people and the lack of legal protections; emphasize the pride concept of political action, protest; Promote solidarity among the local LGBTQ + community and with other movements who fight for social justice and equality. Also talk about how different oppressions interact with each other, to address the problems of less visible groups in the community, to resist the blackmail of LGBTQ + identities, “says the description of the event.
Advertising of political parties and businesses (flags, banners, etc.) is also claimed to be undesirable on the march.
“This is a peaceful protest, which is why we ask all participants to comply with the relevant security requirements and not to engage in conflicts with other participants, against protesters or police officers. We also inform you that with our permission, the event may not be attended by more than 1,000 participants, “said the organizers.
