The 1,060-kilometer Baltic Forest Hiking route, connecting Riga and Tallinn, runs through national parks, along Lake Peipus-Pskov, on the Estonian-Russian border, on the shores of the Gulf of Finland.
“I like to travel, especially in the mountains, to try interesting routes. Unfortunately this year the situation is different, but I wanted to travel. S t. The way of Jacob. It might be fun, but I didn’t want to go to churches, but to spend more time in nature. The most cautious trip in Finland, but the most interesting routes are already in Lapland, all the way north. Getting there is quite difficult. So I discovered this route “ 15 minutes N.Zaniauskas said.
He embarked on a journey through Latvia in the last days of summer. She also offered to travel to several friends, but they did not dare to travel around September.

“It just came to our notice then. In September, it is necessary to send the children to school and there are issues. Therefore, I chose a shorter section, from Riga to the Estonian border,” said N. Zaniauskas, father of three children working in the information technology sector.
Congratulations – Gauja Park
He read about the route online. The website describes the route in detail, indicates the places where you can stop, the most interesting objects, there are places equipped to sleep in nature. Even the duration of the trip for travelers was estimated.
“The route is really interesting, there are many viewpoints, places to relax. I counted at least ten objects that deserve the attention of tourists ”, said the traveler. According to him, traveling on the trails of Gauja Park is not difficult even for inexperienced travelers: everything is suitable for tourists.

While walking, he met several Lithuanians. Resting in one place, he greeted the Lithuanian family, who were kayaking on the Gauja River.
You can travel the road, but according to the Lithuanian, you hardly feel alone. “During the trip, I met about fifty people with whom I greeted. I also met an Estonian who was on the opposite side, trying to cross the road from the Estonian side. I didn’t see any more of these during the trip, “said N. Zaniauskas.
Once to the lodging place he flew to the island.
According to him, during the last days of summer, the first of September, the trip was still accompanied. However, the rain was not annoying, there was no need to stop the trip. “I borrowed a solar battery from a friend, but he didn’t even need it,” said the traveler.
During the ten days of travel, they only spent two nights in shelters. All the other night she slept in nature in a stretched out hammock. Once to the lodging place she flew to the island. There are also outdoor sleeping areas in Gauja Park. All you need is a sleeping bag.

On the shoulders – 15 kilograms
An experienced traveler carried a backpack weighing about 15 kilograms on his shoulders during the hike. It contained not only the most necessary clothing, but also food and water.
“In the first part of the route, which extended through Gauja Park, there were several cafes. I ate at them. The second part, which covered the roads of the villages, was more complicated. Then I had my food. However, I knew it beforehand, I had read it, so I was ready, ”said the Vilnius resident.
According to him, it is much more fun to travel where the eyes are caressed by beautiful images. The other part of the route to the Estonian border is more complicated. Tourists already face drawbacks here: there is a lack of equipped places to relax and eat. The Lithuanian covered this distance in three days. Along the way, they enjoyed the locals, who allowed them to replenish their water supplies and ate apples.

There were still drawbacks: the hiker was attacked by a four-legged person who was accompanying the mushroom in the forest and bit his finger. The ex-husband of a stranger was alarmed by rage. I called a local doctor. This, it soon became clear, met the woman with the fungus and assured her that the dog was not pregnant and encouraged her not to be afraid of infection.
Minimum travel costs
When asked how much the trip cost, N.Zaniauskas laughed: he was lucky here.
A bus trip from Vilnius to Riga did not cost five euros. “It just came to our notice then. It was raining a lot in Riga so I postponed the trip to the next day and stayed in a hostel. Accommodation costs 5-10 euros. Later I spent another night in the hostel, I needed to charge the external battery. Accommodation was not expensive, it was probably around 10 euros “, calculated the travelers.

During the walk, the man ate several times in cafes, where he did not spend more than 10 euros.
The overnight stay at the campsites cost nothing. A trip to Lithuania was more expensive: from Korneti, where buses stop only twice a day, I had to go to Aluksne. From there to Riga, then to Vilnius. The trip costs about 30 euros.
“It just came to our knowledge then. But you would also eat at home. So this trip really cost minimally. Maybe I spent about 150 euros in those ten days,” calculated the Vilnius resident.
