H&M sale angered netizens: a mistake or an irresponsible invitation to come to the stores?

Kotryna, a reader of the tv3.lt portal, like many other Lithuanians, liked the Facebook account of this chain of stores, which has thousands of followers.

On Friday afternoon, an ad appeared that read:

“Winter sales have started at H&M physical stores! Look for women’s, men’s and children’s clothing and accessories up to 50 percent cheaper.”

The large font emphasizes that the sale is made in “Physical stores only.”

Outraged by such announcement, the woman did not hold back and left her comment.

“You encourage people to go to the stores during these times and before Christmas. A responsible approach towards society and our customers. Bravo,” the reader ironically smiled.

It is true, as she herself admitted in the publication of her account, after commenting on the announcement, it did not last less than an hour. “It’s like there, is it a sale or not?” Catherine wondered.

H&M announcement

Virginija Butkutė, H & M’s communications manager, admitted that the company had posted such an announcement, but soon removed it.

According to her, like every December in the stores a seasonal winter sale began, which lasts more than a week. It usually starts first in physical stores and a little later in the online store hm.com.

“We are very sorry that the Facebook post announcing the start of the season sale sounded like an invitation to shop in our physical stores, not online.

The opinion of our customers is very important to us, so in response to customer feedback, we have removed this post, “said the communication manager in a posted comment.

The Government Decree on Quarantine recommends that merchants do not use short-term sales promotions (sales, discount hours, tastings, etc.) that increase the flow of buyers and visitors in a very short time and place (except for sales on-line).

Only according to official data, 86,949 people in Lithuania have already been infected with the coronavirus, 764 have died and 36,168 have recovered.
