The project director, Vita Bubliauskaitė, told JP news portal that the demolition of the Garsas cinema center will continue for almost a month.
“The remains of the shipwreck will be transported from the territory immediately and once the works are completed, the construction of the SEMC in the territory will begin. They start with foundations and other later work. According to the project, the 1st stage works were due to be completed in August 2022. However, after stopping on December 1, 2020, they are upset. According to the works contract, the project works can be extended twice over 5 months. An extension is already planned – the works were not carried out for almost 5 months “, – explained V.Bubliauskaitė.

Project deadline is extremely important
According to the mayor of Panevėžys, Rytis Račkauskas, the questions asked by the Ministry of Culture and the Central Agency for Project Management – answered, therefore it is important to continue and complete the work of the SEMC contract on time – the financing of the project depends of it.
“We have received a letter from the artist S. Eidrigevičius, in which the artist confirms that he will present the collection made up of his works. This dispels doubts about the conditions for the implementation of the project. We just have to go ahead and implement the project plans, ”says R. Račkauskas.
According to the mayor of Panevėžys, there are contractual obligations for the implementation of the project, which must be fulfilled. Otherwise, the investment of the European Union may be lost.
The work will be completed in the spring of 2023
3.7 thousand PST has committed to the construction of the current Garsas cinema center on Respublikos street for more than 9 million square meters. rebuilt in 20 months, the last work can be completed in spring 2023.
It is planned to establish museums, exhibition halls, educational spaces transformed into the building, corridors, an information center, an art library, a media library, and later a superstructure with a roof, adapted for the viewing platform, exhibitions and chamber events.
It was agreed that the basis of the museum’s permanent exhibition would be a collection of works by the artist’s multi-functionalist S. Eidrigevičius. Professional artwork created during the art biennials and symposia in Panevėžys will also be featured.
Built in the Soviet era, the Sound Cinema opened in 1968.
