He heard the verdict at the age of 71.
Eugenijus Žitinevičius, a shoemaker from Kaunas, went to court for an extremely serious crime: he defended the murder of his ex-wife at the age of 71. A Kaunas resident strangled his ex-wife on March 20, 2011.
Although the husband had been divorced for a long time, he and his ex-wife lived in the same apartment, where they gave him a room after the divorce. The tragedy occurred when an alcoholic shoemaker began to blame his ex-wife for allegedly stealing from him. According to the case data, the angry E. Zitinevičius firmly put his thumb on the woman’s neck and pushed him away. When he fell onto the bed, the shoemaker strangled the woman even more. He released his ex-wife’s neck only when foam began to come out of his mouth.
For this crime, in March 2012, the Kaunas Regional Court sentenced E. Žitinevičius to 9 years in prison and ordered the three children of the victims to pay 100,000. litas compensation. The sentence began to run since his arrest in 2011. The killer appealed the sentence, and his sentence was reduced by one year.

Waiting for the murderer to return became a constant fear
E. Žitinevičius spent 8 years behind bars. While in prison, a room that belonged to her was sold so that the children of the strangled woman, recognized as victims, would be reimbursed at least part of the compensation awarded. It was this circumstance that caused the anger of E. Zitinevičius, who eventually sent him back to prison.
The shoemaker who became a murderer came out in March 2019. It seems that spending 8 years and a respectable age in captivity did not change the character of this Kaunas resident. As soon as he returned to Kaunas, the murderer, who had served his sentence, began to terrorize his relatives, the wife and granddaughter of the deceased son.
It was later learned that the killer’s anger was caused by the news that he was still behind bars that a three-room apartment had been sold, in which one room belonged to the convicted killer. According to the data in the case, E. Zitinevičius wrote several letters to his Christmas departure, not the most beautiful. The woman finally admitted to waiting in fear for the day her late husband’s father would be released from prison.
The victim’s granddaughter, who was 14 years old on the day of her grandmother’s murder, later told the victim about the nightmare she awaited in court. He indicated that he knew that his grandfather had done something terrible and that he had written threatening letters to his mother from prison.
“The grandfather wrote that he had killed his wife, that God had punished his father, so he died so that our day would come. Therefore, when my mother called her and told her that her grandfather had returned from prison, I decided to be with my mother that night because I did not want to leave her alone, “recalled the young woman.
He broke into the house, horrified the neighbors.
The threats sent out of prison came true. After leaving the Alytus correctional facility on March 20, 2019, he made his way to his former apartment, where he had previously lived. There he learned that the apartment was already sold, he went to see his sister. According to the case, the sister said that she would not accept him to live because she was afraid and did not even allow him to make a phone call.
Then E. Zitinevičius became enraged: he attacked to terrorize the deceased son’s spouse and daughter, his granddaughter, who had sold the apartment with a room that belonged to him. It seems that the shoemaker, strangled by his ex-wife and trapped behind bars, did not even want to realize that the room had been sold to at least partially compensate for the damage done to the deceased’s children.
E. Žitinevičius arrived at the apartment building where Martí lived on March 21, 2019. He knocked on the door, waited for the march in the stairwell, searched for the neighbors. A man of respectable age did not hide just after leaving prison.
Unable to find the march at home, the convicted murderer discovered that he was working in one of the beauty salons, so he drove to the woman’s workplace. A colleague who worked there later told officers that the man said he had just been released from prison and demanded that his departure be called. Seeing the scared face of the woman, the colleague replied that he was not working here. The witness recalled that the man, speaking in a high tone, saw that he was excited.
“When the man came out, the frightened colleague said that he was his ex-mother-in-law and wanted to kill her, he looked excited, upset, crying and with shaking hands. She said that her father-in-law had threatened her before, that she was very afraid of him because she did not know what to do, “the witness told the court.
Unable to find his departure at work, E. Žitinevičius did not calm down, in the afternoon of the same day he arrived at his house, he knocked on the door of the apartment, he looked for a woman in the neighbors.
The released prisoner repeated his visit the following day. This time the neighbors’ patience was lacking, so they were told not to go out and not disturb them. However, E. Žitinevičius did not respond to these requests.
Later, the murderer marti said that he was afraid to leave the house, taking medication due to the nightmare he was experiencing. Her daughter even asked her boyfriend to live with her with her mother.
He searched for his victims in a church where he prayed for his murdered wife.
The attacks of a man who spent 8 years in prison became increasingly aggressive. According to the case data, in 2019. March 23 around 9.53 p.m. he hit the doorbell at least 10 times, closed the handle, closed the door with his fist, floated the granddaughter inside with uncensored words. Demanding to open the door, grabbing the handle, trying to break it and thus enter the apartment, he threatened to kill the granddaughter, to deal with it.
The next morning, furious, he climbed three times: he climbed the pipe and came to the window of the neighboring apartment, broke it, yelled and demanded to enter the staircase, telling him the stair lock code, closing the door. After that, he tried unsuccessfully twice to “storm” the running apartment: he tore and kicked the door, demanded to be let in, floated, and made threats.
The attacks by the unpredictable Kaunas resident culminated on March 24, 2019, when he stormed the church where the annual St. was located. Mass behind the ghost of his strangled ex-wife. Later, the murderer marti and her granddaughter testified that when she entered, she looked around for them and thus intimidated her.
E. Žitinevičius himself later told investigators when he came to church to pray and donate money. He said he turned the garland on himself, he wanted to set himself on fire, but the policeman saw him.
In the afternoon of the same day, E. Žitinevičius “assaulted” the march house again, breaking it, demanding to open the door, threatening to set it on fire and kill the march. This was the last attack by a Kaunas resident who had been released behind bars for 8 years, detained by police officers, and a pre-trial investigation into systematic terrorization was launched.
He mentioned the murdered wife with a finger in her eye.
After the case reached the Kaunas District Court, E. Žitinevičius submitted his version. He did not deny having searched for a march and a granddaughter, admitted to walking home, knocking on the apartment door, knocking, but assured him that he had not knocked on the door, “only four times by moving the handle very gently.”
He explained his actions by saying he wanted to speak to the march, but denied that he was floating and insulted, denied having threatened to kill them.
On February 21, 2020, E. Žitinevičius was convicted of systematically terrorizing his victims through mental violence, and was sentenced to 2 years in prison.
E. Žitinevičius disagreed with this judgment and appealed to the Kaunas Regional Court. In his complaint, he stated the strange reasoning that “the court should have proven or acquitted him and not found him guilty.”
The Kaunas resident also assured that the prosecutor was clearly in favor of the victims, their departure and their granddaughter. He explained that “the charge has not been proven, but the fictitious march, broken by the finger, and all the neighbors and the witness who bought his apartment also support his march and lie.”
“The appellant argues that it would be illogical to think that he would threaten to set fire to or kill his march and his beloved granddaughter. Indicating that their relationship was good, Martí defended him from his abusive son. He understands that he is already considered a murderer for the murder of his wife, but the wife herself lied to him and beat him, leading to such a tragedy. As a result of that tragedy, he survived long and even stabbed himself in the eye with the finger of a dead wife, confirming his survivors, “the Kaunas Regional Court ruled.
He blamed the victim for his attacks.
E. Žitinevičius did not hide in his complaint when he was looking for a march, because he cared about the location of the relics in his father’s wallet, which he wanted to donate to the Military Museum.
Relic stories intended to be delivered to the museum may have motives. E. Žitinevičius’s grandfather is a parachutist, member of the Seventh Constituent, soldier, volunteer and public figure Jurgis Žitinevičius. When the verdict was issued in 2012, an elderly woman comforted that a shoemaker who had killed his ex-wife had brought terrible shame to the entire family.
It seems that the past 8 years behind bars did not change E. Zitinevičius’s tendency to blame others for his crimes. In the first case, accusing his murdered ex-wife, he has now attacked the march in his complaint.
“According to the convict, Martí had already buried and destroyed everything he did not need, and having nothing to say to the appellant, such an accusation occurred to her or she was intimidated by the agents, so she called the police and wrote that complaint, “he accused his victim a second time. A 78-year-old Kaunas resident was sent behind bars.
On June 10, 2020, the Kaunas Regional Court rejected E. Žitinevičius’s complaint and upheld the sentence of 2 years in prison for terrorizing the granddaughter and granddaughter.
