According to data from December 29, 322 patients are currently being treated for COVID-19 in the Panevėžys region. Of these, the Republican Panevėžys Hospital has 138. According to data from Tuesday morning, there are 15 people in the intensive care unit, but the head of the institution Arvydas Skorupskas says that the numbers tend to increase.

8 patients were given artificial lung ventilation in addition to receiving oxygen. Hemodialysis was performed in 7 patients.

Looking forward to the next few weeks

According to A.Skorupskas, although there are many serious patients, the situation can be called stable. There is currently no growth like the one we recorded a couple of weeks ago. But the manager assures that this or that week may be the hardest. However, it is gratifying that the number of healthy people is gradually stabilizing.

“We currently have more than 200 sick employees. There are 24 more employees in self-isolation. In total, more than 600 have fallen since the beginning of the pandemic, so staff tensions are not increasing, gradually improving. We have more than 40 volunteers who do a great job, with a lot of enthusiasm.

We really don’t lack simple beds. They will be fully sufficient to meet the needs of the region. Maybe a little more stress in resuscitation, but it is related to the lack of personnel, because both the doctors and the nurses are sick, ”said A. Skorupskas.

Vaccination will be suspended due to supply interruptions

A. Skorupskas also reviewed the vaccination situation of the staff. According to him, a total of 975 employees were vaccinated in the Panevėžys and Utena regions. This is the maximum number based on the amount of vaccine received in the first stage.

According to A. Skorupskas, priority groups have been vaccinated: people who work with COVID-19 infection and those who have comorbidities and the treatment of their disease would be complicated. 850 people were vaccinated at Panevėžys Hospital. The other part of the doses was administered to other institutions in the Panevėžys and Utena regions.

Although the second phase of vaccination was scheduled to begin this year, these plans were adjusted by an unexpected message from the manufacturer.

“The outage at the Belgian plant, where the refrigeration equipment is a bit surprising, has cut off supplies. Until we have a precise knowledge of the third batch, the second will be carried out. In this way, our goal is to guarantee revaccination after three weeks.

We would need around 2,800 doses to vaccinate all employees in Panevėžys and Utena counties as a matter of priority. 975 people have already been vaccinated. About 1,900 doses are still needed. If we get two containers, we will cover those numbers at the same time. If we do not receive it, we will reduce the number of vaccines proportionally. With, say, one container, we can vaccinate half of the needs of both counties. We also didn’t vaccinate everyone in our hospital, we had to prioritize. To achieve so-called organizational immunity, 70 percent of people must be vaccinated. In numbers, that means 1,400 vaccinated people. We, like everyone else, have not vaccinated everyone and we have not yet met our need, “said A. Skupupskas.

Vaccinated both by physicians and by administration

According to A. Skorupskas, the COVID-19 vaccinators were not only doctors who worked with patients on the front lines, but also other hospital personnel, such as auxiliaries, field workers, lifters, providers of food for the sick and auxiliaries nursing staff are more or less exposed to the threat of COVID-19. .

“Everyone is interested in whether the administration is vaccinated or not. I can say that according to the order of the Minister, the administration of the Republican Hospital Panevėžys consists of four people. Three out of four people are not only administrative personnel, but also medical personnel who provide services. All three work and have contact with patients, and the fourth belongs to the category of people who belong to the risk group.

If we talk about the image in Lithuania, then a person in the administration has already left anapilin. He is the director of the Šilalė Hospital, and in the country’s resuscitations there are not one or two administrative employees connected to artificial lung ventilation. For skeptics and others, the answer would be that the management staff are the same people as everyone else. According to their age, they belong to a risk group due to comorbidities and functions ”, said A. Skorupskas.
