He evaluated the “transfer” of Vaičiūnas to the presidency of another ministry: the opinions of the opposition differ

“I think it is logical, because in the months leading up to the new elections, it would be completely unwise to look for a completely foreign person from the country who would take the time to get into current affairs. Since merging the Ministries of Economy and Innovation and Energy is just a matter of time, it is logical that it is enough to replace the energy problems, because we only have a few serious strategic energy projects there, ”said Gintautas Paluckas, the leader of the Social Democrats.

According to him, Ž. Vaičiūnas would be a suitable candidate for all parties.
“It would be, I think, a rational and effective step, even without much political struggle or interpretation of the relationship. There are already ministers who satisfy the ruling government and the president, the remaining months would be” covered, “Paluck said.

Viktorija Čmilytė-Nielsen, leader of the Liberal Movement and member of parliament, also supported him. Although, as the politician pointed out, this is not the most optimal solution, considering the remaining time before the elections, such a solution, according to V. Čmilytė-Nielsen, is possible.

“I think this is a rational decision, to be honest. Especially since it is this minister who has demonstrated in two terms that he can work hard and really, even from the point of view of the opposition, I must admit that he has not received any major complaints or criticisms. (…) It is obvious that this ministry is especially important during this period, and its presence without a minister is detrimental to everyone, “said the politician.

However, G. Landsbergis, the president of TS-LKD, interviewed by Elta, took a different opinion. According to him, there are other candidates who could successfully occupy the post of Minister of Economy and Innovation.

“It is regrettable that due to the stubbornness of the rulers at such an important time for the country’s economy, there is still no Minister of Economy in the Government.” It is not very clear why one of the current Deputy Ministers of this Ministry or, for example, the head of the Invest in Lithuania agency (Mantas Katinas – ELTA) could not be appointed Minister. After the transfer of the Minister of Energy Ž. Vaičiūnas will face a new problem in this position due to the vacancy of the Minister of Energy, ”says G. Landsbergis.
According to the conservative leader, Lithuania cannot afford to weaken the Ministry of Energy.

“This is definitely not the time when Lithuania can afford to weaken the Ministry of Energy: projects are currently being implemented that are extremely important to Lithuania in terms of national security.” There is a need to accelerate electricity synchronization projects and focus EU support on not buying electricity from the insecure Astravo nuclear power plant before the power plant starts operating. Therefore, at this delicate time, it would be irresponsible to abandon important energy work and seek a new Energy Minister. By solving a problem, a new one will be created, ”added G. Landsbergis.

ELTA recalls that in an interview given in Delphi on Thursday, President G. Nausėda said that the current Minister of Energy Ž. Vaičiūnas.

President Delfi stated that J. Vaičiūnas’ candidacy is acceptable to both him and Prime Minister Saulius Skvernelis, but at the same time creates another problem: the need to find a boss for the Ministry of Energy.
“I am talking about Mr. Vaičiūnas. I would like Mr. Vaičiūnas to be the Minister of Economy and Innovation a few months before the end of his term,” said the President, adding that whether this idea will be realized will also depend on the decision of the Minister of Energy, who is currently acting Minister of Economy and Innovation. Ž. Vaičiūnas did not comment on the situation.
