As we have already mentioned, it all started with the fact that the artist couple K. Rimkutė and L. Salučka publicly presented their work in the underground Saltoniškių st. at the intersection. On this occasion, they explained to the Delfi journalists that it is worth talking about the pains of society through art, it is the most acceptable and understandable language for everyone. According to K. Rimkutė, art heals the soul, therefore, when solving social problems, various creative initiatives are the most influential, and conversations often fall into personalities, sharper comments.

However, the reaction to the wall painted by the artists was such that they no longer existed, and the Lithuanian flag appeared instead of the symbol of the LGBT movement. Some time later, an inscription supporting the LGBT movement also appeared on the national flag. Also on social media, everyone started sharing and arguing in support of one side or the other.

He blames the municipality of Vilnius

Political scientist Šarūnas Liekis, who was asked to assess this situation, said that the Vilnius municipality, which allows such vandalism on the city walls, should be blamed for this incident in the first place. According to him, it was a good ground to start such a conflict.

“They both wrote, and Šimašius had to survive any graffiti and any marks on the walls for a long time. If everyone is allowed to stain the walls, then everyone stains. I am against countrymen in general and I don’t understand why the Township has not been able to handle this matter for so many years. Therefore, it should be a comment to Shimashi in the first place. “

When asked by a political scientist why the Lithuanian flag was chosen to oppose the LGBT flag, he said that it was possible to choose to draw any symbol if allowed to do so.

“If someone has good graffiti and tagging, why are some taggers better than others? In my opinion, this is a manifestation of disorder in the municipality. Normal penalties should be introduced, for example in Finland, try to paint and you will get a big fine for drawing and more for repairing the wall. “

S. Liekis emphasized that such a mess creates conditions for conflict, because, as he joked, “one can write“ Solomon ”and the other -“ Bolomon ”.

“Disorder creates conditions for conflict, for example, as was the case in the Harlem district of New York before Julian (former Mayor of New York – Delphi) started managing it. city ​​and it was that if you allow minor infractions, chaos prevails in the city in general. “

According to the political scientist, it is necessary to remove graffiti and labels, as they become a conflictive phenomenon.

“So one can write ‘You are a smoker’, then the other can write ‘You are an even bigger smoker’, and so on. The city still has to deal with these vandalism cases. Because it is tolerated, freedom is given, so it happens when, in fact, everyone who writes on the walls should be punished.

Naturally, the problematic topic arouses passions

Political scientist Mažvydas Jastramskis joked that drawing on borders is not his competence, but agreed to provide some insights into the conflict situation. According to him, this is an issue on which a large part of the public has a very clear position and has become very relevant in recent years.

“It became especially important because the party, which advocates for equal rights and legitimation of the association, has now entered the parliament. Before these Seimas elections, few people in Lithuania thought about these issues. Let’s say it has been turned into a problematic subject and it is natural that it arouses many passions “.

When asked why the LGBT flag is opposed to the state flag, the political scientist commented that such things are happening not only in Lithuania.

“If we take other states, the relationship between the issues is such that more conservative people are also less cosmopolitan. I can also give an example of when it happened. BrexiThese are people who were more conservative, they voted more to leave the European Union.

The reason and consequence for this lies in the fact that more liberal values ​​are likely to be associated with both globalization and the European Union, which is why the political self-awareness of the most conservative people is such that dichotomies are highly desirable. . If, for example, Lithuania is a national state, then it is opposed to cosmopolitan liberal values, the European Union, etc. This division is so simplified in the understanding of those people. “

He stressed that he still does not see how this conflict could be resolved, as so far the only solution was not to move these issues at all.
