Harmony: small non-food trade is possible if done safely and without contact

“Small non-food trade is not prohibited. On the Internet, by phone, on social networks, people can continue to order the goods they need if they are delivered to their homes or collection points. These collection points cannot be very complicated: you can install a contactless collection point at the door of your store. Trading by remote and contactless means is allowed in Lithuania, “said A. Armonaitė in the Seimas during Government time, responding to the question from the “peasant” Laima Mogenienė.

The minister said he would speak to traders about it on Thursday.

“This afternoon, I am meeting with merchants, both large and small, we will look for a solution on how to reduce people’s contacts, but we will also continue to trade with those remote contactless means,” said A. Armonaitė.

As of Wednesday, food can only be sold in markets by government decree, while non-food items are not prohibited in stores whose main activity is the food trade.

With the stricter quarantine restrictions set to take effect on Wednesday, representatives of small and medium-sized businesses are criticizing the rules restricting their activities, saying they will find out if this is a violation of competition law.

On Sunday, the government extended the quarantine until January 31, in addition to tightening quarantine measures: restricting movement from one municipality to another, banning non-essential goods stores, leaving food, optical and orthopedic hardware stores open, pharmacies and veterinary services.
