“We already knew a few days ago that there would be snow, we also knew what to do, what measures to take in the presence of such snow. The salt would not be able to withstand the layer of falling snow, so we anticipated that the snow would need to be cleared. Basically, we do it from yesterday at 6 in the afternoon, sweeping the snow to the sides and immediately spreading the streets to avoid a layer of snow and ice on the asphalt. This is how we turn the wheels most of the day, “he told Eltai.
E. Steponavičius stated that there are currently between 3 and 4 road cleaning trips per day.
“We mobilized all our forces (…). Our employees complete one route and take another, we make 3-4 flights per shift, ”he said.
As E. Steponavičius pointed out, currently the greatest attention of road users is paid to the busiest streets of Vilnius and the streets where public transport runs.
“However, it is snowing heavily and we are forced to set priorities in such a way that we first clean the streets where the most intense action is taking place.” In Vilnius, these are streets as fast as Geležinio vilko street, Laisvės avenue, the western and southern ring roads. It is very natural that we are paying close attention here, because this is where the highest intensity of traffic is found. Our other priority, which is also very understandable and natural, are the streets on which public transport circulates ”, assured the representative of Grinda.
“Unfortunately, all other streets will have to wait,” he added.
According to E. Steponavičius, the smaller streets of the capital will be cleaned more intensively when the intensity of the falling snow decreases.
“Small streets (will be cleaned more intensively – ELTA) only after the snow ends and the snow ends after a couple of days. We cannot promise anything more specific here. If we see that the intensity of the snow is decreasing and already we can go from those main streets to smaller ones, we will definitely do it. We understand that both the ambulance and the fire station and the police have to do their job, “he said.
