Atalanta did not face Real Madrid in the first match of the UEFA Champions League round of 16 on Wednesday and suffered a small loss with a score of 0: 1.
The course of the match fundamentally changed due to the decision taken by the referee in the 17th minute to remove Atalanta defender Remo Freuler from the field for the last hope.

After the match, this decision was strongly criticized by the Italian club’s strategist Gianas Piero Gasperini.
“I don’t know what the outcome would have been all other things being equal, but the course of the match changed completely after this episode, which was viewed too strictly.
I recently received a sentence from Serie A for criticizing the judges, if I say anything else, UEFA will suspend me for at least a month. But those decisions kill football.
We cannot have referees who have not played football and cannot properly assess such situations. We must do everything possible so that the people who have played football are referees, ”said GP Gasperini.
